Fritz Southdowns was established in 1998 when we were looking for a way to provide our kids, Karin, Kody and Katie, with competitive market lambs. When Pat Everett offered us his flock of 80 Southdown ewes we decided to take the plunge and get into the sheep industry. With a few more ewes from Mr. Bob Steen and a handful of registered ewes from various other breeders we were in “the business”. Today we lamb out close to 300 head.
Our first lambs hit the ground in 1999, and boy were we in for an adventure. By 2001, we had reached our goal of producing competitive lambs, winning Champion Southdown at the Southwest International Livestock Show in El Paso, Reserve Champion Southdown at San Antonio, Champion Southdown at the Star of Texas and Champion Southdown at the State Fair of Texas. Since then we have won a champion banner multiple times at every major livestock show in Texas. Our breeding sheep have also been strong competitors winning banners at both the state and national level.
Now that all our children have graduated, we continue producing southdowns that are competitive on all levels. Our goal is not just to sell you a lamb, but to also provide you with all the help you need to succeed. We are available to answer any questions or give advice on anything from medical problem to your feeding program. Please feel free to call us anytime.
